Dear colleagues,

Please see below the call for guest orchestras to perform at the upcoming CODA National Conference next January. You will note that this will be a particularly exciting year, with the presence of two top clinicians: Miguel Harth-Bedoya (Fort Worth Symphony) and Cliff Colnot (Chicago Civic Orchestra). I encourage you to take advantage of this very unique opportunity. In order to allow you enough time to advocate for funds within your institution the deadline for submission of proposals is April 15, 2013. Results will be given by May 15, 2013. Fasten seat belts for an exciting and invigorating experience in Dallas!

COLLEGE ORCHESTRA DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION
2014 NATIONAL CONFERENCE
at TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY, FORTH WORTH, TEXAS

CALL FOR PERFORMING GROUPS

CODA is requesting applications for guest orchestras to perform for the 2014 National Conference to take place January 23-25, 2014.  This is a wonderful performance opportunity for your orchestra on a national stage before an audience of expert and very supportive colleagues.

In addition, there are very special educational opportunities for the orchestras who are chosen.  One orchestra will be the clinic orchestra for a session on ensemble training for orchestral musicians, led by Cliff Colnot, master teacher and conductor of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, one of the premier pre-professional training orchestras in North America, and the other orchestra will be the clinic orchestra for a conducting master class led by the eminent conductor, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, conductor of the Forth Worth Symphony and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and guest conductor of major orchestras around the world.  The clinics will follow each orchestra‚s concert, respectively.

The concerts and clinics of the selected orchestras will take place on Saturday, January 25.

Requirements and other information:

 The conductor must be a member of CODA

 The ensemble must be primarily composed of college students

 It is the responsibility of the selected orchestra to cover all related expenses

 The concert performance at the conference needs to be 50 to 55 minutes, total

 Two orchestras will be chosen

 The orchestra must have in their repertoire a classical or romantic symphony (multiple movements) that can be used as the basis for the clinics.  It is not necessary for this work to be performed at the actual concert, but it must be well under the fingers of the players.

Application: please submit the following:

1. Three copies of a CD from a live performance(s) of the orchestra (limit to 60 minutes, please).  The CD should be labeled only with the repertoire performed (no words identifying the orchestra or conductor).

2. A cover letter on college letterhead including the following:

 Complete contact information

 Possible repertoire you would be performing

 A brief description of the type of orchestra (i.e. all-undergraduate, mix of graduate and undergraduate, mix of college and community members, etc.), including the name of the orchestra, the ratio of college to non-college musicians in the orchestra, and an estimate of the number of players by next January

 A brief bio of the conductor

 If available, a photograph of the orchestra for promotion purposes in the event the orchestra is chosen to perform

Applications will be screened by a committee.

Complete application materials must be received by April 15, 2013 to be given consideration.

Mail to:

Miami University Dept. of Music
